Frequently asked questions

How does car identification work?

Point your camera at a car, tap the shutter, and Boby's Garage runs an on-device machine-learning model that identifies the make and model. No internet connection is required for identification — your photos are processed locally on your phone.

The app didn't recognise my car. What can I do?

Our model recognises hundreds of common and enthusiast cars but isn't perfect. If a car is misidentified, you can correct it on the catch confirmation screen by tapping the suggested name and picking the right one from the list. Submitting corrections also helps us improve future versions of the model.

For very rare or modified vehicles the model may not have a match — in that case you can still log the spot manually.

How do I reset my password?

On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password, enter your email address, and follow the instructions in the email we send you. Check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive within a few minutes.

How do I change my username?

Open Profile → Settings → Account → Change username. Usernames must be 3-20 characters, lowercase letters, numbers, dots, and underscores only.

How do I delete my account?

Open Profile → Settings → Account → Delete account and confirm. Your account and all associated data are queued for deletion immediately and removed within 24 hours. Full details: Account & Data Deletion.

How do I export my data?

Open Profile → Settings → Download my data. You'll receive a JSON file with your full collection, profile, and catch history that you can save or share via the system share sheet.

Why does the app need my location?

Location is used to tag where you spotted each car so you can see them on the map. It's optional — you can decline the permission and still use the app to identify and collect cars. You can change this at any time in your device's Settings.

Why does the app need my camera?

The camera is required to identify cars. Boby's Garage doesn't take any photos in the background — the camera only activates when you open the spot tab. You can revoke camera access in your device's Settings, but you won't be able to identify new cars without it.

How do I report inappropriate content or a user?

On any post in the social grid, tap the menu icon (•••) and choose Report. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours and offending content is removed.

Is Boby's Garage free?

Yes. Boby's Garage is free to download and play. A future Pro tier will add optional features like unlimited decks, batch identification, and detailed catch history; the core spotting, collecting, and social features will remain free.
