Boby's Garage ("we", "our", or "the app") is a car-spotting mobile application. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we protect it.
Privacy at a glance
- We collect your email and username to create and secure your account.
- We use camera access so you can identify and save your car spots.
- We use location only while the app is in use and only when you choose location-based features or tagging.
- We do not sell your personal data.
- You can request deletion of your account and uploaded data.
1. Data We Collect
- Account information: Email address and username when you create an account (via email/password or social login).
- Photos: Photos you capture may be stored on your device and may also be uploaded to our servers when needed to save your catch, support account recovery across devices, or support app features such as sharing and social feed functionality.
- Location: Location is only collected while the app is in use and only if you grant permission. If you tag a catch with location, that location may be stored with the catch.
- Usage data: App interactions such as catches, XP earned, and challenge progress to provide game features and leaderboards.
- Device information: Device type, operating system version, and app version for crash reporting and compatibility.
2. How We Use Your Data
- To provide the core car-spotting and collection experience
- To maintain leaderboards and progression systems
- To improve car recognition quality, safety, and service reliability
- To send important service updates (no marketing emails without consent)
3. Photo and Recognition Improvement
We may review uploaded photos and related metadata to improve recognition quality, moderation, and service reliability. We do not sell your photos.
4. Public vs Private Data
Your username, optional profile image, catch count, and shared posts may be visible to other users through in-app social or leaderboard features. Private account data such as your email address is not shown publicly.
5. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure in encrypted form. We use AWS Cognito for authentication and S3 for photo storage. All data is transmitted over HTTPS.
6. Data Retention
We keep account data for as long as your account remains active, unless a longer retention period is required for security, fraud prevention, or legal compliance.
7. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We may use aggregated, non-personal usage statistics to understand app performance and improve the service.
8. Your Rights
- Access: You can view all your data within the app.
- Deletion: You can request full account deletion by contacting us. We will delete all associated data within 30 days. Some limited records may be retained where required for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, or dispute resolution.
- Export: You can request a copy of your data by contacting us.
9. Camera and Location Permissions
The app requires camera access to identify cars. Location access is optional but recommended for tagging catch locations. You can revoke these permissions at any time in your device settings.
10. Children's Privacy
Boby's Garage is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or via email.
